Relay has a proactive ongoing fleet acquisition policy to deal with the wide range of high value, sophisticated and frequently bulky customer electronic assets in the most cost effective and operationally efficient manner.
Our diverse Mercedes-Benz vehicle fleet is configured to ensure the security of goods in transit and to carry out collections and deliveries in a way that minimises costs to customers and reduces any negative environmental impact of our operations. This includes cutting the amount of journeys needed to be made through extra load capacity.
Our HGVs have the capacity to load heavy equipment by use of already large full body cantilever tail-lifts at the rear. However, even this heavy duty capability would be unable to deal with some real “super heavyweight” challenges that could come our way.
So, back in August, Relay acquired two Mercedes-Benz 18-tonne side-loading trucks, enabling loading and unloading to be undertaken more easily by forklifts. One is located at our depot in Iver, Buckinghamshire, and the other at our Warrington depot.
These vehicles have been specially tailored for the requirements of Relay and our customers. With their box body length increased to 8 metres to accommodate the type of loads we are accustomed to deal with and also, in line with our cost reduction and environmental policies, to reduce the number of journeys required for single or multiple collections and deliveries.
These 18-tonners have already proved invaluable to our operations!
