Over the years, Relay’s fleet acquisition policy has included measures to streamline our logistics operations by increasing the load capacity of our vehicles. Increasing the load volume means that fewer journeys need to be made while not in any way diminishing service levels to customers.
So we are delighted to announce that we have recently acquired two new 13.6 metre double-decked trailers that have a 10- tonne lower-deck load capacity and 2-tonne tolerance over the swan neck.
The vehicles carry a message in their livery that says: “one journey, not two - a bigger eco2 friendly truck.” Basically, using a double-decked configuration means one instead of two vehicles on the road, which can cut approximately 200,000 miles per year from the journeys we undertake for customers. This translates into less fuel consumption, less carbon emissions and less traffic congestion.
It is also worth mentioning that our double-decked trailers can be used with unique co-branded Mercedes-Benz tractor unit recently introduced to our fleet. This environmentally friendly vehicle is used exclusively for Konica Minolta consignments and what makes it so remarkable is that it runs exclusively on HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil).
HVO is an exceptionally eco-friendly synthetic paraffinic that offers a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of up to 90%!
This increase in the number of double-decked trailers in the Relay fleet therefore reduces operating costs while benefiting the environment. It really is a win-win situation, offering terrific support for our journey planning and logistics operations.
