The recent acquisition of nine brand new Euro 6 compliant trucks has increased Relay’s fleet by nearly 10%. This provides us with a total of 60 vehicles with differing load capacities to meet today’s increasingly complex logistics requirements.

The exceptionally high level of demand for our logistics services sends a positive signal about recovery in the UK economy and confirms Relay’s position as a leading player in our specialist field of delivering fragile high value business, scientific and medical equipment. In selecting the much needed new vehicles, we were determined to ensure that they gave us maximum capacity and flexibility so that every delivery can be carried out as efficiently as possible.

Our six new Mercedes Atego 1224L 12 tonne trucks, divided between our Iver and Warrington depots, provide us with 4 tonnes additional load capacity over the 7.5 tonne vehicles in our fleet. An 18 tonne Atego has also joined our fleet to handle larger consignments.

All these vehicles are dual compartment and fitted to Relay’s bespoke specifications to ensure equipment safety and security. We have also had the sleeper cabs changed to crew cabs, allowing for the option of an extra crew member in the vehicles when required.

The need to operate in increasingly congested urban areas makes our two new extra lightweight 7.5 tonne trucks particularly invaluable.  The exceptionally well designed load area of these vans allows for between one and 1.2 tonnes more goods on board than could normally be expected in vehicles of this tonnage.

Increased load capacity means fewer journeys, which in turn reduces fuel consumption, benefitting the environment as well as making our services more competitive for our customers. Additionally, all our new vehicles being Euro 6 compliant means that they fulfil the highest environmental specifications.

The expansion of our fleet permits us to meet the increasing demand for our services without any compromise to our high quality standards. We need to ensure total safety of highly fragile equipment while maintaining rigorous schedules and deadlines. Our new investment in vehicles fully supports these aims.
