Specialist transport technical terms

Glossary

Here at Relay we hope to make working with us as stress-free as possible for our customers and stakeholders. This is why we wanted to share with you a Glossary of terms which you may see across our website or which are used by our staff. This will help you to understand the processes we go through to look after your valuable consignments.

Freight Forwarder: A firm organising the storage and shipping of goods on behalf of other companies. It is their job to decide the best mode of transport and have the assets in place for it to happen.

Freight forwarding agents: Relay has a network of trusted and reliable agents able to organise the transit of customer shipments to end user destinations worldwide. We use multiple modes of transport and the freight forwarding process can include professional packing, customs clearance and local installation.

Freight forwarding: This is the worldwide coordination and shipment of goods from one place to another via a single or multiple carriers via air, marine, rail or highway

Hi-Tech Warehousing: This means we have warehousing facilities at our depots such as climate controlled storage space, advanced Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and computerised stock control. Relay ensures that we have the technology and management skills to provide the optimum conditions and security for our valuable customer assets.

Last Mile Delivery: Last mile delivery, or final mile delivery, are terms frequently used in logistics to describe the efficient movement of goods from a distribution hub to the point of end use.

Specialist systems relocation: We are able to collect specialist items such as Data Racks and transport them to a new location. During this process, our staff can safely install your goods if required to do so.

Technical storage logistics: Our specialist transport services include technical storage logistics, which involves monitoring your goods closely while being held in one of our secure hi-tech warehouses.

White Glove delivery: The term “white glove delivery” has a widespread use in the transport and logistics sector, signifying a high quality of care and customer service undertaken when delivering products to end users.

2 man delivery: In its simplest form, the 2 man delivery process involves crews of 2 working together to transport and deliver your items. This ensures that we can collect and deliver heavy, delicate and awkward apparatus in a safe and secure way.
